Archive
Archive a file when you are done with it. It leaves your library and its links stop working, but nothing is lost until someone deletes it forever.
Archive a file
- In your library, right-click the file, or hover over it and click ….
- Choose Archive.
The file leaves the library at once. Changed your mind? Choose Undo on the message that appears. You can archive any file you can edit; see who can do what.
What happens to it
- It moves to Archive, in the sidebar under your workspace, with when it was archived.
- Its links stop working, for everyone: teammates, people you shared it with, and anyone with the link. Anyone who has it open can no longer save changes to it.
- It stays in the archive, with everything on it, until someone unarchives it or deletes it forever. Kite never empties the archive by itself.
The archive is the workspace's, not only yours: it lists every archived file in the workspace that you could change, so a file a teammate archived can be found and put back.
Unarchive
- Open Archive in the sidebar.
- Click the file, or right-click it, and choose Unarchive.
The file goes back to the library where it was, and its old links work again. Choose Open on the message to go straight to it. Anyone who can edit the file can unarchive it.
Delete forever
In the archive, right-click a file and choose Delete forever, then confirm. The file and everything on it are removed, and this can't be undone.
Only two people can delete a file forever: the person who made it, and the workspace's owner. Anyone else sees only Unarchive in the menu.
Empty the archive
Empty archive, at the top right of the archive, deletes forever every archived file there that you may delete, including any not yet shown on screen. Kite asks first, and says how many. Files you can't delete stay where they are. The button only appears when there is something you can delete.
When an agent archives
A connected agent can archive files too, for example to clear up one it made by mistake. Ask it in plain words: “Archive the Kite file called Old banners.” It works the same way as archiving it yourself: the file goes to the archive and its links stop working.
An agent can only archive files you own. It can't unarchive a file or delete one forever: those stay with you, in the archive. See Working with agents.
