Comments

Comments sit on the design itself, where they are about. Use them to review with your team, and to give your agent its next job.

  1. On the toolbar at the bottom of the board, click Comment, the speech bubble at its right end (or press C).
  2. Click a frame where your comment is about, or anywhere on the empty board.
  3. Type in Write a comment… and click Send, the arrow button in the box (or press Enter). To start a new line, press ⇧Enter; to give up, press Esc.

The comment becomes a pin wearing your face. A pin on a frame moves with the frame, so it stays on what it is about when the layout changes. The emoji button in the box (Insert an emoji) adds one to your words.

Anyone who can open the file can comment, including people who can only view it. See Sharing.

Threads and replies

Click a pin to open its thread in a card beside it. Every reply goes in the same thread, under the first comment, so the conversation stays in one place. Type in Reply to thread… and click Send.

Comments by the file's owner are marked Owner. A comment written by someone's agent shows the agent's name and mark; point at the name to see whose agent it is.

Reactions

To answer without writing, click Add a reaction on a comment and pick 👍, ❤️, 🎉, 👀, 🙏 or 🔥. Click your reaction again to take it back.

The comments panel

While the comment tool is on, the right panel lists every thread in the file. Each card shows a number and the page it is on, such as #3 · Page 1, who wrote it, the start of the comment and how many replies it has. A dot marks a thread with something you haven't seen. Click a card to open the thread on the board, on its page.

  • A card's More menu has Copy link: a link that opens the file with that thread open. It is what emails and the bell send people to.
  • Show resolved at the top of the panel brings resolved threads back into the list; Hide resolved puts them away.
  • Close comments, at the top of the panel, closes it. Clicking Comment on the toolbar again does too.

A badge on the toolbar's comment button counts what is new for you.

Resolve and delete

  • Mark as resolved closes a thread once it is dealt with. Its pin leaves the board, and the thread is kept: Show resolved finds it, and Reopen brings it back. People who can edit the file can resolve and reopen threads.
  • Delete removes a comment for good. You can delete your own; people who can edit the file can delete any.

Mention a teammate

Type @ in a comment and a list opens: people marked teammate, and your agents, marked your agent. Keep typing to narrow it, then click a name (or press Enter).

Your teammates here are the people on the file: its owner, your workspace (when the file is open to it), and people invited to the file who have a Kite account. Each one you mention gets a line in their Activity (“mentioned you on…”) and an email, as often as their Someone comments setting allows. See Notifications.

The list only appears for people on the file, so someone who just has the link can't read your team's names off it.

Ask your agent

If you can edit the file and have connected an AI tool, you can give it work from a comment. Pin the comment where the change belongs and mention your agent: “@Claude make this card denser”. That makes the comment a request, and the comment says where it stands:

  • Waiting for your agent: sent, not started.
  • Your agent is working…: it has picked the request up.
  • Done by your agent: it has finished.
  • Asked your agent: the thread was resolved before the agent marked it done.

The agent reads the comment, the frame it is pinned on and the layer you clicked, so a short request is enough. Connecting an agent is covered in Working with agents.

In a browser

Nothing starts on its own in a browser: the request waits on its comment, which says Waiting for and the agent's name. Tell your agent do my Kite requests in your AI tool, and it works through every request waiting for it, answering each in its thread.

In Kite for Mac

In Kite for Mac, a request to Claude or Codex can start on your Mac as soon as you send it, with Claude Code or Codex. When your comment names your agent, a switch under the box says what will happen:

  • On, it reads Run with Claude Code when sent (or Codex): the agent starts the moment you send.
  • Off, it says the agent will wait, and you start it from the comment: Run now appears beside the request's status.

The switch remembers your choice. If the program isn't on your Mac yet, Kite tells you how to install it.

Who hears about a comment

  • The file's owner hears about every comment that isn't theirs.
  • When someone replies to you, you hear about it at once, whatever your email setting.
  • Anyone you mention hears about it.

People with a Kite account hear in Activity, in Kite for Mac's notifications, and by email as often as they chose. See Notifications.

Comments from guests

Someone who opens the link without signing in can comment too. The first time, the comment box asks for Your name, with an email if they like, and their comments are marked Guest so you know the name was typed rather than signed in. They can't mention people or agents.

On a phone

Files open on a phone with a bar at the foot of the screen. Tap the Comment button, then a frame, to leave a comment. All comments opens the list of threads.
